What is Zakat?
About Zakat
Zakat is the third pillar of Islam, an obligatory act of charity requiring Muslims to donate 2.5% of their qualifying wealth each year to help those in need.
Nisab Threshold
The Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess before they become liable to pay Zakat. This is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver.
Benefits
Zakat purifies wealth, supports the needy, strengthens community bonds, and reminds us of our social responsibility as Muslims.

Zakat Information
Who Must Pay Zakat?
Zakat is obligatory for every Muslim who has reached puberty, is of sound mind, and possesses wealth equal to or above the Nisab threshold for one complete lunar year.
Recipients of Zakat
Zakat can be distributed to eight categories of people: the poor, the needy, those employed to administer Zakat, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, those in bondage, those in debt, in the cause of Allah, and the wayfarer.
When to Pay Zakat
Zakat is due after one lunar year of possessing wealth above the Nisab threshold. Many Muslims prefer to pay it during Ramadan for greater blessings, but it can be paid at any time of the year.
